  1. 1/2 cup Chana Dal
  2. 1/2 cup Masoor Dal
  3. 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  4. 250 gms Palak or Spinach
  5. 1 tsp ginger chopped
  6. 1 Tbsp garlic chopped
  7. 2 medium size onions sliced
  8. 2 medium size tomatoes chopped
  9. 2-3 green chillies chopped fine
  10. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  11. 1 tsp coriander powder
  12. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  13. 1 Tbsp lime juice
  14. 1 sprig coriander leaves chopped
  15. 2 Tbsp ghee
  16. Pinch asafoetida
  17. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  18. 1 ltr water
  19. as per taste Salt
  20. Tempering
  21. 1 Tbsp ghee
  22. 2-3 whole red chillies
  23. 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  24. Pinch asafoetida
  25. 1 Tbsp fried onions

Instructions to make to make Dal Palak

  1. Soak Chana Dal for 30 mins. Wash the Spinach well and chop fine, blanch in hot water for 1 min and immediately put them in ice cold water for 2 mins. Drain and set aside
  2. In a pressure cooker, add all Dals, turmeric powder and salt and on medium flame pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Once done don’t remove the lid, de-pressurise and gently remove the lid. Set aside
  3. In a wok heat ghee, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, chopped onions, cook until onions softened.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies and cook until tomatoes are mushy. Add coriander powder, red chillies powder and the spinach. Stir well.
  5. Add the cooked Dal and mix well, add salt, lime juice, coriander leaves. Mix and set aside
  6. For Tempering - in a wok heat ghee, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, whole red chillies, fried onions and Kashmiri red chilli powder. Stir for 1 min and immediately add to the Dal. Mix well and set aside
  7. Plate with Roti, Rice, Papad and salad and enjoy a wholesome meal
